Abstract
The creative legacy of the poet and prose writer Vasily Golderov still remains unappreciated. Among his poetic works, the most recognized one is “The Unforgettable Tenth Grade” poem only, which has become a popular song; researchers of his prose limit themselves to remarks on the lyrical nature of his stories. Therefore, basing on the material of the writer's short prose, the purpose of this article, is to reveal his mastery as an artist of the word. To achieve the goal, we set the following tasks: to consider the role of the tradition and to define the innovation in the Vasily Golderov’s artistic world, in particular, to analyze the genre system, plot-compositional structure, principles of narration, and the methods of psychologism in his stories. However focused on the phenomenon of man, they also reflect the events and contradictions of the era. Thus, in a number of stories, the echoes of the Great Patriotic War are present, though the war theme is transformed; rather than being concrete historical, it becomes a historical-moral one, also serving as a source of national history and memory, as well as a measure of social and human values. The author also could not but reflect on the topic of political repressions and the relapse of the command-administrative style of leadership. As for the Vasily Golderov’s character system, his principle of creating the image of a person is based not on social, but rather personal typification. That means that his characters do not fit into a certain social “case” and are drawn as humans. At the same time, two trends clearly show through: on the one hand, the polarization, and on the other, individualization of characters. As a result of the study, it was established that the Vasily Golderov’s small prose, along with the influence of Yakut writers, primarily A. Fedorov’s, was also shaped by the Russian classical literature, in particular Anton Chekhov’s stories. It is seen in the use of such techniques as "open finals", omission and subtext. The writer’s poetic arsenal has a whole system of psychologism techniques, from the portraitism, artistic detail, accompanying landscape, and phytoimages to the dream poetics and intertext. In addition, there is introduced the new intragenre gradation of small prose by the plot-composition structure, identifying such varieties as the story-reminnisence, story-revelation, story-discovery, story-insight, and the story-anticipation. The study uses the principles of the comparative historical and typological methods of analyzing literary material.
