Guidelines for the preparation of a scientific article

Requirements for publications in the peer-reviewed scientific journal «Вестник СВФУ. Vestnik of NEFU»

Scientific fields: biological sciences, physical sciences, philological sciences.

UDC: has to precisely correspond with the group of sciences to which the article is assigned.

Title: clearly provides the contents of the article, includes key words (no more than 10-12 words), composed in Russian and English. Author is responsible for the accuracy of the translation.

Abstract: concise summary of the contents of the article, includes the rationale, the problem statement, purpose and methods of the study, results and key observations (no less than 250-300 words), composed in Russian and English.

Keywords: denote the specifics of the topic, object and results of the research (no less than 10 words or word combinations), provided in Russian and English.

Article structure

Introduction must contain the rationale of the research topic, analysis of the scientific literature on the topic, problem statement, formulation of the object and results of the research. Highlights encapsulate the key takeaways of the research.

The main body of the article must be titled, broken up into sections according to the content. Introduction, sections and conclusion aren’t numbered.

Conclusion describes key finding of the research, presented as short summaries of the sections of the article/main body while avoiding repetition of the statements within the main body.

Article structure (physical and biological sciences)

Introduction: must contain the rationale of the research topic, analysis of the scientific literature on the topic, problem statement, formulation of the object and results of the research. Highlights encapsulate the key takeaways of the research.

Materials and Methods: describes materials, instruments, equipment, selection, observation/testing conditions; describes methods and design of the observation/test.

Results: demonstrate actual outcomes of the research – text, spreadsheets, graphs, diagrams, equations, photographs, figures/images.

Discussion: interpretation of the obtained results of the study, including accordance of the obtained results to the study hypothesis, limitations of the study and synthesis of its results, proposals for practical application and direction of future studies.

Conclusion: general conclusions of the study, representing brief summaries of the sections of the article without repeating the presented material in the body of the article.

Literature (GOST): should consist of works that have the status of scientific publications - monographs and scientific articles published in recent years; it is recommended to use sources whose publication date is no more than 5 years old; scientific works should be prepared in accordance with the standard and indicated at the end of the article in order of citation.

References. The references list is additionally duplicated in Latin according to the system of the USA Library of Congress (LC, website for transliteration: http://translit.ru). All works are enumerated in order of references mentioning in the text. For periodicals it is necessary to write authors family name, initials, article’s title, periodical’s name, year of publication, tome, number or publishing, the first and the last pages of the periodical.

4. NB! According to GOST, if there are 3 or less authors, then after the dash line authors’ initials and surnames are to be provided, and before the title – only the first author.

If there are 4 authors, do not indicate authors before the title, and after the dash line – all 4 authors.  If there are 5 or more authors, then do not indicate authors before the title, and after the dash line – only the 3 authors.

BUT! If there are more than 3 authors, one should indicate only the 1^st author:

If the book is published within the series, then you need to indicate the title of the series, which is given in parentheses after the year of publication.

Information about Authors (in Russian and English): provided on a separate page, the order of mention of authors depends on their contribution to the performed work; Full name, academic degree, academic title, position, main place of employment, name of the organization, which should coincide with the name in the charter of the organization; full address data of each author; contact information: e-mail, city, country of residence, contact numbers (in Russian and English).

Article size: must be up to 24 pages, including illustrations and references.

Format of the Text of the Article

1. MS Word file, А–4 format, portrait orientation. Page setup: margins (upper – 2.0 cm, lower – 3.0 cm; left & right – 2.5 cm; paragraph – setback 1.25 cm; feed pitch – 1.5 multiplier; body size – 14 (with automated word shift), folio size – 12, typeface – Times New Roman.
2. Shortenings – only generally accepted (in text and in tables). All abbreviations and shortenings must be decoded at the first use in text. All tables must include headings and continuous numbering within the article denoted with Arabic numerals (for instance: table 1), references within text are given in shortened form (tab. 1). The text of a table is printed after two intervals; tables’ content should not be the same with the article’s text. In articles on biological sciences, the title and the text of a table should have only Latin names for species, genus and families. Comments to the table should be under the table.
3. Formulas – should have continuous numbering. Numbers are written at the end of a line with Arabic numerals in round brackets. Between formulas highlighted by separate lines and text as well as between lines of formulas there should be spaces no less than 1,5 – 2 cm long.
4. Illustrative material (graphs, maps, charts, photographs) are indexed as pictures, using continuous numeration (Arabic numerals) and are written in a abbreviated form (for example: pic. 1). Color images (graphs, charts) are accepted. The figure size is to be no less than 40–50 mm and no more than 120–170 mm. The comment should be placed under the picture.

Procedure for Article Admission for Publication

1. Articles (in digital form) are submitted via e-mail: vestnik2013@inbox.ru. Images should be attached as individual files in .tiff file format with a resolution of at least 300 dpi)
2. The article (after resolving all comments from the editorial) is sent in print in duplicate (one of them - without by-line) to the following address: 677000, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Yakutsk, Kurashova st. 30/4, cab. 7, tel./fax: (4112)-42-28-75.
3. The article is cleared for publication and printed (in order of submission) upon the final decision on publication by the editorial board based on an independent review, which is handled by the editorial board of the journal.

Publication is free of charge.

Manuscripts that do not meet the established requirements are not subject to review.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

1. The manuscripts are accepted if has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.

2. The materials should be prepared in a format OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or World Perfect.

3. Internet links are provided as a complete URL. 

4. Text should be typed with an interval of one and a half line spacing, font Times New Roman, 14 pt; to highlight the accents it is recommended to use italics rather than underlining (except Internet links). All images, graphics and tables are placed within the text according to the meaning of the particular part of text  (and not at the end of the document).

5. Text should follow the stylistic and bibliography requirements as stated in  Regulations  located in the Part "About Us." 

6. Please, remove the authors' names from the title of the article and other parts of the document to ensure the  anonymity of reviewing.
